TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several student executive bodies from various campuses and youth movement organizations are set to join the "Menuju Indonesia Bangkrut" (towards Indonesia bankruptcy) rally spearheaded by BEM UI at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout, Central Jakarta, on June 12, 2026.

Yatalathof Ma'shum Imawan, Chairperson of the Student Executive Body of the University of Indonesia (BEM UI), stated that all 15 faculties within the university will participate in the demonstration. In addition, eight other campus executive bodies and various activist groups are confirmed to join the front lines.

The participating groups include the IPB University Student Family BEM, Jakarta State Polytechnic BEM, Pancasila University BEM, the Gunadarma BEM Alliance, the National Student Front (FMN) Central, FMN UI, Pembebasan, and the Progressive UI Student Union (Semar UI).

"Several organizations and movement nodes that participated in the national consolidation at the UI Campus yesterday (June 10) are still in the process of confirming their presence," said Yatalathof, or familiarly known as Athof, when contacted on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

He noted that the exact number of participants will be finalized during a technical meeting tonight. The rally is scheduled to take place at the HI Roundabout, with protesters gathering at the FISIP UI field in Depok, West Java, at 10:00 a.m. The designated dress code for the event is the iconic yellow jacket paired with a black shirt.

The "Towards Indonesia Bankruptcy" action is the culmination of a national consolidation held by BEM UI and a movement alliance representing various campuses across the Jabodetabek area at Pusgiwa UI on June 10, 2026.

This consolidation resulted in five core demands to be presented tomorrow, among them is a call for President Prabowo Subianto to halt the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) project and the Red and White Village Cooperative (KDM) scheme.

Furthermore, BEM UI is demanding that Prabowo put an end to state budget wastage and take immediate steps to reduce the prices of fuel and staple goods. They are also calling for a cessation of militarism within civilian spaces.

"Prabowo must stop evading responsibility and acknowledge the government's failures," Athof stated in a release on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

These demands were formulated in response to Indonesia’s deteriorating economic and democratic landscape. According to Athof, while Indonesia is a resource-rich nation, its people remain far from prosperous. He argued that the country's economic growth has effectively collapsed, with government policies only serving to accelerate that decline.

"Fiscal policies are leaking, and the independence of the Central Bank is being eroded. Moreover, the government's communication with the public is far from appropriate," he said.

Athof believes the administration is in denial of the current crisis, accusing the government of degrading the struggles and criticisms voiced by the people. "The state apparatus is also being weaponized as a tool to silence those who dare to speak up," he concluded.
