TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The beloved star of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Tim Curry, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at age 80. Eight days later, his cause of death has been unveiled—a coronary artery disease.
Curry's cause of death was confirmed by the documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, obtained by People. The document also pointed out that Curry's history of stroke and kidney cancer contributed to his death, but did not result in the underlying cause of the renowned actor's death.
Additionally, no operations were performed for his coronary artery disease, kidney cancer or history of stroke.
Curry died at his Toluca home in Los Angeles, his longtime manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz told The Hollywood Reporter on August 26. He died just before midnight at 11:18 p.m. local time, People reported.
Curry suffered a major stroke in 2012, after which he started using a wheelchair and focused exclusively on voice acting. He opened up about the near-fatal stroke in an interview on CBS Sunday Morning last year.
“It was so strange,” he said. “I was actually having a massage, and the guy who was giving me a massage said, ‘I’m worried about you. I think we should call a doctor.’ I felt fine. I had no symptoms I was aware of. I wasn’t in pain.”
In 2025, Tim Curry also published his memoir, Vagabond, where he reflected on his health and prolonged recovery. "If there was anything impressed upon me in the aftermath, it was just how remarkable it was that I was still alive," he said, as quoted from BBC, citing People.
After the news of his death, Curry's former co-star and industry peers shared tributes honoring the actor. One of them was Susan Sarandon, who starred alongside him in Rocky Horror Picture Show. "Thank you Tim for meaning so much to so many people. Love you," she wrote. What a funny, sexy, original he was. But what I loved about him most was his heart."
Tim Curry is beloved for his roles in various classics besides the lingerie-clad Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 film, including Pennywise in the 1990 TV series It, Rooster in Annie (1982), and appearances in Home Alone 2, Clue, and Scary Movie 2.
