TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spanish La Liga club Real Madrid has condemned the racist remarks made by Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla towards their player Kylian Mbappe.
As quoted from the club's official website on Wednesday and cited by Antara, Real Madrid strongly condemns such statements, which are inappropriate for a political representative.
Furthermore, Real Madrid expresses its full support for our player, Kylian Mbappé—a role model for millions of people, especially children around the world.
Real Madrid believes that behavior that incites hatred like this has no place in society, as football and sport are platforms for equality and solidarity.
"Real Madrid will continue to work to eradicate racism, xenophobia, and violence once and for all," the official statement read.
Previously, Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla made racist remarks towards Kylian Mbappé after Paraguay's match against France in the World Cup Round of 16, which Les Bleus won 1-0.
Mbappé then responded to Amarilla's comments, saying they were not representative of the Paraguayan people, let alone their national football team, which had sweated and played with respect throughout the 2026 World Cup.
Mbappé said Amarilla's reckless, racist actions distracted the world from the Paraguayan national team's extraordinary journey at the 2026 World Cup.
Furthermore, the French Football Federation (FFF) also responded to the controversy, calling Amarilla's remarks "horrible and unacceptable." The FFF stated that they would take legal action against the remarks.
The FFF also reiterated their support for Kylian Mbappe, the victim of the racist attack, while emphasizing their commitment to fighting racism and other forms of discrimination.
