TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President of the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI), also the Labour Party President, Said Iqbal, responded to the news of his potential appointment to President Prabowo Subianto's administration. This news was previously discussed by the State Secretary Minister (Mensesneg), Prasetyo Hadi.
Said refused to talk much about his appointment plan. "Let's just wait for the official announcement from the Menesneg representing the President," said Said when contacted on Friday, June 5, 2026.
Nevertheless, Said predicted that he would receive an assignment in the field he had been leading as a labor union leader. "Possibly around labor, that's what I anticipate," he said.
The State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi previously signaled that the Labour Party President, Said Iqbal, will join President Prabowo Subianto's administration. Prasetyo mentioned that the possibility of Said Iqbal joining the government is currently being discussed.
He did not disclose the specific position that will be given to the President of KSPI. However, according to Prasetyo, the position Said will hold is closely related to his background in manpower.
"Possibly related to, of course, his struggle all this time, with workers, manpower. Let's wait, what suits best is being discussed," said the politician from the Gerindra Party at the Jakarta Presidential Palace on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
President Prabowo previously appointed another labor union leader, the Chairperson of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers' Unions (KSPSI), Jumhur Hidayat. Jumhur was inaugurated as the Minister of Environment and the Head of the Environmental Control Agency in a cabinet reshuffle on Monday, April 27, 2026.
Since Prabowo became President, both KSPI and KSPSI have often celebrated May Day with the Gerindra Party chair. In 2025 and 2026, both organizations, along with several other labor unions, chose to celebrate Labor Day at the National Monument (Monas) with the government.
