Sumatra Blackout Probe Prompts TNI to Guard Top Prosecutor's Home

2 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Dozens of Indonesian National Army (TNI) soldiers are guarding the house of Deputy Prosecutor General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah on Jalan Radio I, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. They are stationed in front of the gate and around the house.

The Head of the TNI Information Center, Brigadier General Muhammad Nas, stated that the security measures were taken at the request of the Attorney General's Office as part of interagency cooperation. According to Nas, the guard post is in line with Presidential Regulation No. 66 of 2025, which regulates the state's protection of prosecutors.

"The security measures are not related to other issues currently circulating," Nas said in a written statement on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Nas denied that the security measures were related to the ongoing police search. According to him, the search is a separate process and fully within the authority of the police.

The soldiers, armed with long-barreled weapons, stand guard at the main gate of the white-painted house. Some others are resting in the front yard. Several personnel of sturdy build are wearing civilian clothes. Several prosecutors from Jampidsus are also seen coming in and out behind the house fence wearing red uniform.

The security at Febrie's house took place after the police conducted a search at Cafe de'Clan Signature on Jalan Cilandak Tengah, Cipete, South Jakarta, on the same day. The Corruption Eradication Task Force (Kortastipidkor) of the Indonesian National Police along with the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metro Police conducted the search.

The Head of Kortastipidkor of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, stated that the search was related to the investigation of alleged corruption, money laundering, and bribery in the cases of PT Asabri, corruption in coal supply causing a blackout in Sumatra, and the case of PT Krakatau Steel. Overall, the investigators searched 12 locations on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

"We continue to make efforts in law enforcement, currently with a joint investigation scheme in handling corruption and money laundering cases in the legal process of PT Asabri and PT Krakatau Steel," said Totok.

The Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metro Police, Chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto, urged all parties to respect the ongoing legal process. According to him, anyone obstructing the investigation process can be charged under Article 21 of the Anti-Corruption Law. "We convey to anyone attempting to obstruct the investigation process, they can be prosecuted under Article 21 of the Anti-Corruption Law," said Budi.
