Total Lunar Eclipse Singapore Tonight: Venus-Saturn Conjunction to Follow

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Before you know it, a total lunar eclipse will dazzle Singapore tonight. Known as a “Blood Moon,” the sky is set to transform into a canvas of deep crimson hues. As if that weren’t enough, a Venus-Saturn conjunction will also grace the western horizon later this week.

That alone makes March an especially exciting month for astronomical spectacles. Whether you’re a seasoned stargazer or simply someone curious about the night sky, it’s hard not to be captivated by the rare celestial display unfolding overhead.

To help you make the most of it, here’s a handy guide to navigating the experience.

Total Lunar Eclipse Eclipse Singapore — Blood Moon

The standout event is the total lunar eclipse visible from Singapore on March 3, lasting approximately 58 minutes. This phenomenon occurs when Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon, causing the Moon to slip into Earth’s shadow.

Not every eclipse produces the dramatic “blood moon” effect, which is what makes this March’s event especially worth watching. The Moon’s coppery-red glow appears when sunlight filters through Earth’s atmosphere, causing shorter blue wavelengths to scatter away, while longer red and orange tones bend toward the lunar surface.

According to Space.com, after March 3, the Moon will not enter completely into Earth’s deepest shadow for the next 34 months. While eclipse seasons will continue and lunar eclipses will still take place, none of them will reach totality during that period. The next total lunar eclipse is expected around New Year’s Eve 2028–2029.

Best Time and Place to View the Total Lunar Eclipse in Singapore

The ideal viewing window in Singapore is between 07:45 PM and 09:17 PM, when the Moon is fully immersed in Earth’s shadow. Unlike a solar eclipse, no special glasses or protective gear are required, making it observable with the naked eye.

As noted by Travel + Leisure, Singapore offers several open spaces ideal for skywatching. Some of the most popular spots include:

  • Marina Barrahe

  • East Coast Park

  • West Coast Park

  • Changi Beach Park

For those seeking darker skies and scenic waterfront views, Yishun Dam, Upper Seletar Reservoir, Coney Island, and Punggol Waterway Park also offer excellent vantage points.

If you’re craving for a more enhanced experience, Science Centre Singapore is hosting free public viewings of the eclipse. The event will feature optional telescope sessions and live planetarium shows at its Omni-Theatre.

Venus-Saturn Conjunction to Follow

Just days after the eclipse, Singapore can look forward to another celestial highlight. On March 7 and 8, Venus and Saturn will appear in a close conjunction, positioned low above the western horizon shortly after sunset.

The two planets will shine side by side like bright twin dots in the fading twilight. Venus will appear noticeably brighter, while Saturn will sit slightly higher and to the east. The pairing will be visible for about 45 minutes after sunset, so skywatchers are encouraged to begin observing soon after dusk from a spot with a clear view of the western horizon.
