TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of Public Relations Division of Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Jaya Budhi Hermanto, revealed the latest condition of the explosion victims at SMAN 72 (high school) in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, Indonesia. "We underline that the current number of victims being treated is 29 out of the total 96," Budhi stated at Jakarta Metro Police headquarters on Saturday night, November 8, 2025.
Out of the 29 victims still receiving treatment at the hospitals, 14 are being treated at Cempaka Putih Islamic Hospital, 14 at Yarsi Hospital, and 1 at Pertamina Hospital. "Meanwhile, 67 others have been discharged and returned home." This number is an update from the previous data collection. Last Saturday, the explosion victims were still 54 in number.
Budhi emphasized that the police have involved the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) and a trauma healing team. This is due to the fact that some victims and the suspected perpetrator are still minors. The explosion case at SMAN 72 is not only handled by Jakarta Metro Police. The National Police's Densus 88, the National Police forensics laboratory, and North Jakarta Metro Police are also involved in addressing this case.
The explosion occurred while students and teachers at SMAN 72 were performing Friday prayer on November 7, 2025. The first explosion happened during the second sermon at the third floor prayer room, followed by a second explosion in the back area of the school canteen.
During his visit to Cempaka Putih Islamic Hospital on Saturday afternoon, November 8, 2025, National Police Chief General Sigit Prabowo revealed that the teenager who is the suspected bomber is none other than a student from SMAN 72. According to Sigit, the condition of the suspected bomber has improved. They had previously undergone head surgery due to yesterday's explosion. The individual is currently conscious but still receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
