TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Defense, along with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), is taking steps to conserve fuel oil amid global geopolitical dynamics. This step includes more than just adjusting the workweek from five days to four.
The Head of the Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo, stated that the use of primary weapon systems (alusista) will be regulated based on priority indexes and operational needs. He said, "As well as limiting the use of official vehicles and shuttle transportation for employees while still considering the effectiveness of task implementation," in a press release published on the official ministry website, Monday, March 23, 2026.
He stated that the fuel efficiency policy is implemented adaptively, measurably, and gradually according to the needs of each unit within the Ministry of Defense and TNI. Rico said that fuel efficiency is also focused on supporting aspects, while strategic operations and defense readiness are optimally maintained.
He said that the fuel efficiency initiative is a proactive approach to managing strategic resources. Additionally, he mentioned that current global geopolitical conditions could affect energy stability. "(Fuel efficiency) is not because of an emergency," he said. According to him, the national energy reserves are currently in a safe condition.
President Prabowo Subianto issued a directive to save fuel oil. This is due to the war between the United States and Israel against Iran, which has affected oil prices and crude oil supplies.
Prabowo stated that Indonesia must take proactive measures to address the impact of the war between the United States and Israel against Iran. "It means that we have to save fuel consumption," said Prabowo during a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Friday, March 13, 2026.
