TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed the content of his phone conversation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. It is known that Prabowo contacted several Muslim leaders by phone, including Anwar Ibrahim.
The call was made in conjunction with Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri. According to the Malaysian PM, he and Prabowo exchanged views on various current issues, "Including the Iran-Israel conflict," wrote Anwar on his Instagram account @anwaribrahim_my, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
In discussing regional and global issues, both emphasized the importance of sustainable diplomatic approaches. According to Anwar, he and Prabowo both called for peace in relation to the war in the Middle East region.
Anwar also informed Prabowo that Malaysia continues to support and strengthen diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the Iran-Israel conflict. "To ease tensions, protect civilian lives, and open meaningful negotiations towards a peaceful and lasting resolution," said Anwar.
The two Malaysian and Indonesian leaders also agreed to arrange a meeting in the near future. Anwar even proposed a state visit plan to Jakarta, Indonesia, as part of the measure to strengthen bilateral relations.
Prabowo Subianto previously reached out by phone during Eid al-Fitr to several Muslim leaders. This included Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
President Prabowo also conveyed Eid al-Fitr greetings via phone to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Jordan's King Abdullah II, and Saudi Arabian Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
